Since fighting brok out in South Sudan in mid-December 2013, thousands have fled the violence and insecurity. 707.400 have become internally displaced and some 149.700 have fled to neighbouring countries. More than 67.589 refugees are seeking shelter in Uganda, adding to humanitarian organisations’ difficulties in providing adequate assistance.
The European Commission has been supporting life-saving activities in South Sudan with more than 200 million euros since 2012. Aid includes assistance for internally displaced people, refugeess and returness providing them with basic healthcare, access to clean water, sanitation and food assistance.
